Q Our laptop has suddenly developed a problem. It will now show a video only on its own screen. The projected image shows the outline of the Media Player program but the image area is black. I can get around this by using control F4 but that leaves me with a completely blank computer screen, which is rather cumbersome. Any solutions?
A There are a couple of suggestions offered by the WMP FAQ (http://zachd.com/pss/pss.html), such as making the projector the primary display before playing the video or temporarily turning off the video acceleration. With display problems, it's often a good idea to check the website of your video card manufacturer in case an updated driver will help.Q I recently installed Microsoft Office Professional 2002 and promptly lost the contents of my address book and contents of all my local folders. Is there some way to retrieve them? I was previously using Microsoft Outlook Express 6, which still seems to be there. A The good news is that your addresses and the emails in your email folders are not lost. It's just that Microsoft Outlook is a different program to Outlook Express and it works slightly differently and stores information differently. It won't be able to use the old Outlook Express address book or find your old emails unless you import these into the new program. It's a fairly straightforward process beginning in Microsoft Outlook by going to the File menu, clicking Import and Export and choosing to Import Internet Mail and Addresses from Outlook Express. There's an Office support document available with more in-depth information (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA010919601033.aspx).Q Internet Explorer is stuck on the largest text setting. If I change to a smaller setting, the next time I go back online, it jumps back to huge letters again. What can I do about it?A If Internet Explorer has trouble remembering your preferred font size, it's usually related to settings within Outlook. In Outlook, take a look under the Tools menu, Options, Mail Format, and then Fonts and International Fonts. Try adjusting the "font size" for different fonts. Internet Explorer font size issues can also be affected by Eudora. If you use Eudora, go to Tools then Options, Viewing Mail and try unticking the setting called "use Microsoft's viewer". qa@nicolemanktelow.comwww.smh.com.au/techtips
